NATO has announced the establishment of four new permanent military bases in Poland as part of a major expansion of its eastern flank. The decision, approved unanimously by all 32 member states, marks the largest reinforcement of NATO's eastern presence since the Cold War.
The bases will host approximately 10,000 troops from various NATO nations, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and France. They will be equipped with advanced air defense systems, armored units, and rapid reaction forces.
Polish Prime Minister welcomed the announcement, calling it "a historic day for Poland's security." The bases are expected to be fully operational within 18 months.
Russia condemned the move as "provocative" and "destabilizing," threatening to respond with "appropriate military-technical measures." NATO Secretary-General dismissed Russia's objections, stating that the alliance has every right to defend its members.
The expansion comes amid ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe and follows Poland's significant increase in defense spending to 4% of GDP, the highest among NATO members.
